Baltic Herring and Potato Casserole (Räime ja kartulivorm)

Ingredients

  • 500g Baltic herring fillets
  • 1kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
  • 200ml sour cream
  • 50g butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  3. Top with half of the sliced onions and half of the herring fillets.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and herring.
  5. Arrange the sliced hard-boiled eggs on top.
  6. In a bowl, mix the sour cream with melted butter, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the casserole.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
