Bami (surinamese Bami)
Bami is a popular noodle dish in Surinamese cuisine, influenced by the diverse cultural heritage of the country. This flavorful and aromatic dish is a staple in many Surinamese households and is perfect for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 400g egg noodles
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 carrots, julienned
- 200g chicken breast, thinly sliced
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 eggs, lightly beaten
- 4 green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Boil the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced red bell pepper, julienned carrots, and sliced chicken breast to the pan. Cook until the chicken is no longer pink.
- Stir in the soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Push the chicken and vegetable mixture to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs into the empty space. Scramble the eggs until cooked through.
- Add the cooked egg noodles to the pan and toss everything together until well combined.
- Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
