Bamia Bil Lahm (spiced Lamb Stew With Okra)

Ingredients

  • 500g lamb, cut into cubes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups okra, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 cups chicken or beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the lamb cubes to the pot and brown them on all sides.
  4. Stir in the ground coriander, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper, coating the lamb evenly with the spices.
  5. Pour in the chicken or beef broth and bring the stew to a simmer. Cover and cook for 45 minutes, or until the lamb is tender.
  6. Add the okra and diced tomatoes to the pot, and continue to simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve the Bamia Bil Lahm hot, accompanied by rice or flatbread.
