Bamia Bil Lahm (spiced Lamb Stew With Okra)
Bamia Bil Lahm is a traditional Kuwaiti stew that combines tender spiced lamb with flavorful okra. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 500g lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 cups okra, trimmed and halved
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 3 cups chicken or beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the lamb cubes to the pot and brown them on all sides.
- Stir in the ground coriander, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper, coating the lamb evenly with the spices.
- Pour in the chicken or beef broth and bring the stew to a simmer. Cover and cook for 45 minutes, or until the lamb is tender.
- Add the okra and diced tomatoes to the pot, and continue to simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the Bamia Bil Lahm hot, accompanied by rice or flatbread.
