Bara (maridi Millet Granola Bars)
Bara, also known as Maridi Millet Granola Bars, are a popular snack in South Sudan. These nutritious and energy-packed bars are perfect for a quick breakfast on the go or a midday pick-me-up.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Maridi millet
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, or peanuts)
- 1/2 cup dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, or chopped apricots)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the Maridi millet on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden and fragrant. Let it cool.
- In a large bowl, mix the toasted millet, chopped nuts, dried fruits, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a small saucepan, warm the honey and peanut butter over low heat until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the honey and peanut butter mixture over the dry ingredients and mix until everything is well coated.
- Press the mixture into a lined 9x9 inch (23x23 cm) baking pan, pressing down firmly to create an even layer.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into 12 bars.
