Ingredients

  • 500g ground lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground lamb, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, turmeric, cayenne pepper, cilantro, and salt. Form the mixture into small kofta (meatballs) and set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the kofta and cook until browned on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the tomato puree, coconut milk, and garam masala. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  4. Return the kofta to the skillet and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the kofta are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and adjust the seasoning with salt, if needed.
  6. Serve the Bashkir Lamb Kofta Curry hot, garnished with additional cilantro if desired.
