Ingredients
- 6 slices of white bread, crusts removed
- 200g Bavarian ham, diced
- 200g Emmental cheese, grated
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Cut the bread into cubes and place half of them in the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the ham and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, ham, and cheese.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Pour this mixture evenly over the layers in the baking dish.
- Cover the dish with foil and let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the strata is set.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
