Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- Coarse salt, for topping
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and melted butter. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, then place it in a greased bowl and cover with a clean towel. Let it rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil. Stir in the baking soda.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll them into ropes. Cut the ropes into bite-sized pieces.
- Boil the pretzel bites in the water for 30 seconds, then remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a baking sheet.
- Sprinkle the pretzel bites with coarse salt and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let the pretzel bites cool slightly before serving.
