Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup dark beer
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.
  3. Add the chopped onions to the pot and cook until they are soft and translucent.
  4. Stir in the garlic, tomato paste, paprika, and caraway seeds, and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Return the beef to the pot and pour in the beef broth and beer. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  7. Serve the Bavarian beef goulash hot, with a side of mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
