红烧牛腩 (Beijing Style Braised Beef Brisket) is a classic Beijing dish known for its rich, savory flavors and tender beef brisket. This dish is slow-cooked to perfection, allowing the flavors to meld together for a truly satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into large chunks
- 3 slices ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 star anise
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
- 1 tbsp rock sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 cups water
Instructions
- In a large pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat some oil in the pot and sauté the ginger, garlic, and green onions until fragrant.
- Add the blanched beef brisket back into the pot. Stir in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rock sugar.
- Add the star anise, cinnamon stick, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Once the beef is tender, remove the star anise and cinnamon stick. Serve the braised beef brisket hot with steamed rice.
