Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into large chunks
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tbsp rock sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat some oil in the pot and sauté the ginger, garlic, and green onions until fragrant.
  3. Add the blanched beef brisket back into the pot. Stir in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rock sugar.
  4. Add the star anise, cinnamon stick, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  5. Once the beef is tender, remove the star anise and cinnamon stick. Serve the braised beef brisket hot with steamed rice.
