Ingredients

  • 4 chicken drumsticks
  • 3 slices of ginger
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken drumsticks and sear until golden brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same wok, add ginger, garlic, green onions, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Return the chicken drumsticks to the wok. Add soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the chicken is tender.
  4. Season with salt to taste. Serve the braised chicken drumsticks hot with steamed rice.
