Ingredients
- 4 Belgian endives, halved lengthwise
- 8 slices of Belgian ham
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the endive halves in a large pot of boiling salted water and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
- Wrap each endive half with a slice of ham and place them in a greased baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
- Pour the sauce over the endives and ham in the baking dish. Sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the gratin is golden and bubbly.
