Belgrade Brunch (Beogradski Doručak)

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 200g Serbian feta cheese
  • 4 slices of prosciutto
  • 1 loaf of crusty bread
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup walnuts

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the ingredients. Slice the red pepper, green pepper, onion, tomato, and cucumber.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced peppers and onion, and sauté until they are soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. While the peppers and onion are cooking, toast the slices of bread in a toaster or on a griddle until they are golden brown and crispy.
  4. Once the peppers and onion are cooked, crack the eggs into the skillet and cook them to your desired doneness.
  5. As the eggs are cooking, assemble the rest of the ingredients on a large platter. Arrange the slices of prosciutto, feta cheese, tomato, cucumber, and toasted bread.
  6. Drizzle the honey over the feta cheese and sprinkle the walnuts on top.
  7. Season the eggs with salt and pepper, then carefully transfer them to the platter.
  8. Serve the Beogradski Doručak family-style, allowing everyone to help themselves to the different components of the meal.
