Belizean Shrimp Panades

Ingredients
- 2 cups masa harina (corn flour)
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the masa harina with water to form a smooth dough. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine the shrimp, onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to coat the shrimp evenly.
- Take a small portion of the masa harina dough and flatten it into a circle on a piece of plastic wrap. Place a spoonful of the shrimp mixture in the center of the dough circle.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, then seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the panades until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the panades from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
