Benne Wafer
The benne wafer is a traditional Southern treat with a crispy, nutty flavor that is perfect for snacking or serving with tea.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Stir in the salt, sesame seeds, and flour until well combined.
- Drop teaspoonfuls of the batter onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let the wafers cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
