Berber Bread Pudding
Berber Bread Pudding is a traditional dessert from Western Saharan Cuisine that is made with leftover bread, milk, and warm spices. It's a comforting and delicious treat that is perfect for using up stale bread.
Ingredients
- 4 cups stale bread, torn into pieces
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the torn bread and milk. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Pour the egg mixture over the soaked bread and stir to combine. Add the raisins if using.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the pudding is set.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
