Besan Curry (spicy Jhunka)
Besan Curry, also known as Spicy Jhunka, is a popular dish from the Uttara Karnataka Cuisine. It is a flavorful and spicy curry made with besan (gram flour) and a blend of aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 2 cups besan (gram flour)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix besan with water to make a smooth batter.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
- Pour the besan batter into the pan and stir continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cook the mixture on low heat until it thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
