Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the chopped onion, minced garlic, vegetable oil, tamarind paste, ground coriander, ground turmeric, ground cumin, salt, and sugar to make the marinade.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade and mix well to coat the beef. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
  3. Thread the marinated beef onto the soaked wooden skewers.
  4. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the beef skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.
  5. Serve the Betawi Beef Satay hot with steamed rice and spicy peanut sauce.
