Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken breast, cut into cubes
  • 20 bamboo skewers, soaked in water
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the shallots, garlic, ground coriander, ground cumin, turmeric powder, sweet soy sauce, vegetable oil, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken cubes to the marinade and coat them evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Thread the marinated chicken onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
  4. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Grill the chicken skewers for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and slightly charred.
  5. Serve the Betawi Chicken Satay hot with steamed rice, peanut sauce, and pickles.
