Bharli Bhendi (भरली भेंडी)
Bharli Bhendi is a delicious Maharashtrian dish made with stuffed okra cooked in a flavorful masala.
Ingredients
- 500g okra
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp grated coconut
- 2 tbsp roasted peanut powder
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
- 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
Instructions
- Wash and pat dry the okra. Slit them vertically, keeping the base intact.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, and let them splutter.
- Add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well.
- In a bowl, mix grated coconut, roasted peanut powder, chopped cilantro, and tamarind pulp.
- Stuff the okra with this mixture.
- Heat the remaining oil in a pan, arrange the stuffed okra, and cook covered on low heat until they are tender.
- Serve hot with roti or rice.
