Bhutanese Dried Beef Stew (shakam Paa Tshoem)
This Bhutanese Dried Beef Stew, known as Shakam Paa Tshoem, is a traditional dish from Bhutan that is full of rich flavors and hearty ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 lb dried beef, sliced
- 2 onions, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Soak the dried beef in water for 1 hour, then drain and rinse.
- Heat a large pot over medium heat and add the dried beef. Cook until browned.
- Add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook until the onions are soft.
- Stir in the tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Serve hot with rice or traditional Bhutanese red rice.
