Bhutanese Dried Beef With Chili (shakam Paa)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb dried beef, thinly sliced
  • 10-12 dried red chilies
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried beef in water for 1 hour to rehydrate, then drain and pat dry.
  2. In a pan, heat the oil and fry the dried beef until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the dried red chilies and fry until fragrant. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the remaining oil, sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger until golden brown.
  5. Add the tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  6. Add the crispy dried beef and fried chilies to the pan. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice.
