Bhutanese Dried Beef With Chili (shakam Paa)
Bhutanese Dried Beef with Chili, also known as Shakam Paa, is a popular dish in Bhutanese cuisine. This spicy and flavorful dish is made with dried beef and red chilies, creating a unique and delicious flavor profile.
Ingredients
- 1 lb dried beef, thinly sliced
- 10-12 dried red chilies
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Soak the dried beef in water for 1 hour to rehydrate, then drain and pat dry.
- In a pan, heat the oil and fry the dried beef until crispy. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the dried red chilies and fry until fragrant. Remove and set aside.
- In the remaining oil, sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger until golden brown.
- Add the tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add the crispy dried beef and fried chilies to the pan. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
