Bhutanese Pork Stew (phaksha Tshoem)
Bhutanese Pork Stew, also known as Phaksha Tshoem, is a traditional dish from Bhutan that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for warming up on a cold day.
Ingredients
- 1 lb pork, cubed
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup spinach, chopped
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the cubed pork and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring the stew to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the pork is tender.
- Add the chopped spinach and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Adjust seasoning if needed and serve hot.
