Bihari Fish Curry (बिहारी मछली करी)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat mustard oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  5. Gently place the fish pieces into the masala and coat them well. Add water as needed to adjust the consistency of the curry.
  6. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat until the fish is cooked through.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
