Ingredients

  • 1 cup masoor dal (red lentils)
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the masoor dal and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal, tomatoes, onion, garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Add 3 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  3. Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and mash the dal mixture slightly.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a separate pan, heat ghee and add it to the dal mixture. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or roti.
