Bihari-style Paneer Butter Masala (बिहारी-स्टाइल पनीर बटर मसाला)
This Bihari-style Paneer Butter Masala is a rich and creamy North Indian curry that is perfect for special occasions or when you want to treat yourself to a delicious meal. The combination of paneer (Indian cottage cheese) and aromatic spices in a buttery tomato-based gravy is sure to tantalize your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 250g paneer, cubed
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup cashew nuts, soaked
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup cream
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the paneer cubes until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add butter and sauté the chopped onions until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
- Now, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Meanwhile, blend the soaked cashew nuts with a little water to make a smooth paste.
- Add the cashew paste to the tomato-onion mixture and cook for a few minutes.
- Stir in the red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt.
- Pour in the water and let the gravy simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Add the fried paneer cubes, garam masala, and kasuri methi. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
- Finish by adding cream and stirring gently to combine.
- Garnish with fresh cream and coriander leaves before serving.
