Bila Asa (nile Perch Delight)
Bila Asa, also known as Nile Perch Delight, is a popular dish in South Sudanese cuisine. This flavorful and aromatic fish recipe is a perfect choice for a special occasion or a family dinner.
Ingredients
- 4 Nile perch fillets
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season the Nile perch fillets with salt, pepper, and half of the minced garlic.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the seasoned fish fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the chopped onion and remaining garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the diced tomatoes, ground coriander, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Return the cooked fish fillets to the pan, spoon the tomato mixture over the fish, and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve the Bila Asa hot with your choice of side dishes.
