Biryani Ayam Arab (arabian Chicken Biryani)
Biryani Ayam Arab, or Arabian Chicken Biryani, is a flavorful and aromatic dish that originates from the Indonesian Arab community. This dish is a perfect blend of Middle Eastern and Indonesian flavors, creating a unique and delicious meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves
- 4 tablespoons ghee or butter
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, marinate the chicken with yogurt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, chili powder, half of the minced garlic, half of the grated ginger, and salt. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
- Rinse the basmati rice until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- In a large pot, heat the ghee or butter over medium heat. Add the remaining garlic and ginger, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the marinated chicken and cook until it changes color.
- Layer the soaked and drained rice over the chicken. Sprinkle saffron threads on top.
- Pour milk over the rice. Cover the pot with a lid and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice and chicken are fully cooked.
- Garnish with chopped coriander and mint leaves before serving.
