Bisara (libyan Seafood Stew)
Bisara is a traditional Libyan seafood stew that is rich in flavor and perfect for seafood lovers. This hearty stew is packed with a variety of seafood and aromatic spices, making it a comforting and satisfying dish.
Ingredients
- 1 lb mixed seafood (shrimp, squid, mussels)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 2 cups fish or seafood broth
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and diced red bell pepper, and cook for a few minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, fish or seafood broth, ground cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Add the mixed seafood to the pot and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the seafood is cooked through.
- Once the seafood is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let the stew rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve the Bisara hot with crusty bread or over rice.
