Bistec Encebollado

Bistec encebollado is a traditional Latin American dish featuring tender, juicy steak smothered in a savory onion sauce. This flavorful and satisfying meal is perfect for a hearty dinner with family and friends.

Bistec Encebollado

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) beef broth

Instructions

  1. Season the steak with cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until browned. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Heat the remaining olive oil in the same skillet. Add the onions and cook until they are soft and golden brown, about 10 minutes.
  4. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and return the steak to the skillet. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. Serve the bistec encebollado hot, accompanied by rice and beans, if desired.
