Black Forest Cherry Ice Cream (Schwarzwälder Kirsch-Eis)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries
  • 1/2 cup chocolate shavings or chips
  • 1/4 cup cherry brandy (optional)
