Blaff (creole Fish Stew)
Blaff is a traditional Martinican fish stew that is bursting with Creole flavors. This dish is a staple in Martinican cuisine and is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 4 fillets of fresh fish (such as snapper or grouper)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 scotch bonnet pepper, seeded and sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup of coconut milk
- 1 cup of fish or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons of lime juice
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, and thyme. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the sliced scotch bonnet pepper and green bell pepper to the pot. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the fish or vegetable broth and bring to a simmer.
- Gently add the fish fillets to the pot and let them cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the coconut milk and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Simmer for an additional 10 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the flavors have melded together.
- Serve the blaff hot, garnished with fresh herbs and accompanied by steamed rice or crusty bread.
