Bobotie Pie
Bobotie Pie is a traditional South African dish with a flavorful combination of spiced minced meat and a creamy egg custard topping. This dish is a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors, making it a popular choice for family dinners and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 kg minced beef
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 slices of white bread, soaked in milk
- 2 tbsp curry powder
- 2 tbsp apricot jam
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large pan, brown the minced beef and onions.
- Add the curry powder, apricot jam, vinegar, raisins, and slivered almonds. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
- Squeeze the excess milk from the soaked bread and add it to the meat mixture. Season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk together. Pour the custard mixture over the meat.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
