Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg beef chuck, cut into cubes
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cups bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Season the beef with salt, pepper, and coat with flour.
  2. Heat oil in a large pot and brown the beef in batches. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add onions to the pot and cook until softened. Add garlic, paprika, and caraway seeds, cook for 1 minute.
  4. Return the beef to the pot, add beef broth, tomato paste, and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the dumplings by mixing eggs, milk, and bread crumbs. Form into dumplings and cook in boiling salted water for 10 minutes.
  6. Once the beef is tender, adjust the seasoning and serve the guláš with the dumplings.
