Boiled Custard
Boiled custard is a classic dessert that is simple to make and oh-so-delicious. This creamy and comforting treat is perfect for any occasion, whether it's a cozy night in or a festive holiday gathering.
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 large egg yolks
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is hot but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg yolks until well combined.
- Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Remove the custard from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
- Transfer the custard to a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap directly onto the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming.
- Chill the custard in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
