Bondas (crispy Prawn Fritters)
Bondas are delicious crispy prawn fritters that are a popular snack in Mangalurean cuisine. They are perfect for serving at parties or as an evening snack with a hot cup of tea.
Ingredients
- 250g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 1 cup chickpea flour
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/2 inch ginger, grated
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix chickpea flour, chopped onions, green chilies, grated ginger, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander leaves, and salt.
- Add water gradually to make a thick batter.
- Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
- Dip each prawn into the batter and carefully drop it into the hot oil.
- Fry the bondas until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the bondas from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.
