Bosanski Pilav (bosnian Chicken Pilaf)
Bosanski Pilav, also known as Bosnian Chicken Pilaf, is a traditional Bosnian dish that features tender chicken, fragrant rice, and a blend of aromatic spices. This hearty and flavorful one-pot meal is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs (700g) chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cups (400g) long-grain white rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cups (1 liter) chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until they are soft and fragrant.
- Add the diced chicken pieces to the pot and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the rice, carrots, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper, and cook for a few minutes to toast the rice and spices.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff the pilav with a fork, and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
