Bosanski Sarma, or Bosnian Cabbage Rolls, is a traditional Bosnian dish that is loved for its flavorful combination of ground meat, rice, and spices, all wrapped in tender cabbage leaves. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup uncooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups tomato sauce
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then remove and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, parsley, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf, then roll them up, tucking in the sides as you go.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot and pour the tomato sauce over them. Cover and simmer on low heat for 1.5-2 hours, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the Bosanski Sarma hot, with a side of mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
