Bouchée à la Reine (Queen's Bite)
Queen's Bite (Bouchée à la Reine) is a classic dish from Luxembourgian cuisine, featuring a creamy and savory filling encased in a flaky pastry shell. This elegant dish is perfect for special occasions or a fancy dinner party.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry
- 1 cup cooked chicken, diced
- 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 6 equal squares. Place the squares on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until softened.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the cooked chicken and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Remove the puff pastry squares from the oven and carefully cut off the top third of each square to create a lid. Scoop out any soft pastry from the inside to create a shell.
- Divide the chicken and mushroom filling among the pastry shells. Place the lids on top.
- Return the filled pastries to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
