Bouranee Baunjan (hazaragi Spinach And Cheese Pie)
Bouranee Baunjan is a traditional Hazaragi dish that features a delicious combination of spinach and cheese, wrapped in a flaky pastry. This savory pie is perfect for a cozy family meal or a special gathering.
Ingredients
- 2 cups spinach, chopped
- 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 package of phyllo pastry sheets
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the spinach, feta cheese, ricotta cheese, dill, green onions, black pepper, and salt.
- Place one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
- Spread the spinach and cheese mixture evenly over the layered phyllo pastry.
- Layer 6 more sheets of phyllo pastry on top of the spinach mixture, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the layered pastry into squares or triangles.
- Place the pastry pieces on a baking sheet and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
