Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
- 3 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 2 onions, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 piece ginger (about 2 inches), sliced
- 2 star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp five-spice powder
- 5 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook until aromatic.
- Add the beef brisket chunks and sear until browned on all sides.
- Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sprinkle with sugar. Stir well to coat the beef.
- Add the star anise, cinnamon sticks, and five-spice powder. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 1.5 hours until the beef is tender.
- Add the potatoes to the pot and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes until the potatoes are soft and the beef is fully cooked.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the braised beef brisket with potatoes hot, garnished with chopped green onions if desired.
