Ingredients

  • 500g beef, cut into chunks
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp five-spice powder
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the beef chunks and cook until browned on all sides.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to the pot, and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar, and five-spice powder. Stir to coat the beef evenly.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  5. Add the potatoes to the pot and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the beef and potatoes are tender.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
