Braised Beef with Tofu Skin (焖牛肉豆皮)
This traditional Fujian Cuisine dish features tender braised beef and chewy tofu skin, creating a flavorful and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 500g beef, cut into cubes
- 100g dried tofu skin
- 3 slices of ginger
- 2 scallions, cut into sections
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
- 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 cups water
Instructions
- Soak the dried tofu skin in water until softened, then cut into large pieces.
- Heat the cooking oil in a pot and sauté the ginger and scallions until fragrant.
- Add the beef cubes and cook until browned.
- Pour in the Shaoxing wine, light soy sauce, and dark soy sauce. Stir well.
- Add the sugar, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and simmer for 1.5 hours until the beef is tender.
- Add the tofu skin and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes.
- Season with salt if needed, then serve hot.
