Ingredients
- 500g pork belly, cut into chunks
- 200g chestnuts, peeled
- 3 slices of ginger
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Blanch the pork belly in boiling water for 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- Heat a wok or large skillet over medium heat, add the pork belly and cook until browned.
- Add ginger, garlic, and green onions, and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the star anise, cinnamon stick, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, salt, and five-spice powder.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 40 minutes.
- Add the chestnuts and continue to simmer for another 20 minutes until the pork is tender and the chestnuts are cooked through.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed, then serve hot.
