Braised Pork Intestines with Brown Sauce (红烧大肠)

Ingredients

  • 500g pork intestines
  • 2 slices of ginger
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 3 green onions
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 piece of cinnamon stick
  • 1 dried chili pepper
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Clean the pork intestines thoroughly and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a wok or deep pan over medium heat. Add ginger, garlic, and green onions, and stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Add the pork intestines and continue to stir-fry for 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and sugar. Stir well to coat the pork intestines.
  5. Add the star anise, cinnamon stick, and dried chili pepper. Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the wok, and simmer for 2 hours until the pork intestines are tender.
  7. Uncover the wok and continue to cook until the sauce thickens.
  8. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with chopped green onions.
