Braised Pork Knuckles with Soy Sauce (红烧猪蹄)

Ingredients

  • 4 pork knuckles
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 slices ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, blanch the pork knuckles in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  3. Add the blanched pork knuckles back into the pot. Pour in water until the pork knuckles are submerged.
  4. Cover and simmer for 2 hours, or until the pork knuckles are tender.
  5. Once the pork knuckles are tender, uncover the pot and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
  6. Serve the braised pork knuckles with steamed rice and enjoy!
