Braised Pork Ribs with Soy Sauce (红烧排骨)

Ingredients

  • 500g pork ribs
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 slices of ginger
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Place the pork ribs in a large pot and add enough water to cover them. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, heat the soy sauce and sugar over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the ginger, garlic, star anise, and cinnamon stick to the pot. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Return the pork ribs to the pot and add 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45-50 minutes until the pork is tender.
  5. Uncover the pot and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the ribs.
  6. Transfer the braised pork ribs to a serving dish and serve hot.
