Braised Spare Ribs with Brown Sauce (红烧排骨)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg spare ribs, cut into individual pieces
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp five-spice powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a wok over medium heat. Add ginger, garlic, and green onions. Stir-fry until fragrant.
  2. Add spare ribs to the wok and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Pour in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, and five-spice powder. Stir to coat the spare ribs.
  4. Pour in water and bring to a boil. Then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the spare ribs are tender.
  5. Uncover the wok and continue to cook until the sauce thickens and coats the spare ribs.
  6. Transfer the braised spare ribs to a serving dish and garnish with chopped green onions.
