Braised Tofu With Vegetables
Braised Tofu with Vegetables is a classic Cantonese dish that combines the delicate flavors of tofu with a variety of colorful and nutritious vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
- 1 cup sliced shiitake mushrooms
- 1 cup sliced carrots
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Press the tofu to remove excess water, then cut it into cubes.
- Heat some oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed. Sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant.
- Add the mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, and bell peppers to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender.
- Return the tofu to the skillet and add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and vegetable broth. Bring to a simmer.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the skillet to thicken the sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot over steamed rice.
