Bread Of God (pão De Deus)
Bread of God, known as Pão de Deus in Portuguese, is a traditional sweet bread from Portugal. This delicious treat is often enjoyed as a snack or dessert, and it's perfect for sharing with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and eggs.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
- While the bread is baking, prepare the glaze by mixing the powdered sugar and water until smooth.
- Once the bread is done, remove it from the oven and brush the tops with the glaze. Sprinkle with shredded coconut.
- Let the bread cool before serving.
