Bread Pudding (mouthwatering Double Ka Meetha)
Bread Pudding, also known as Double Ka Meetha, is a popular dessert from the Hyderabadi cuisine. It is a rich and indulgent treat made with bread, milk, sugar, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 6 slices of bread
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 cup of chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)
- 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of saffron strands
- 1 tablespoon of rose water
Instructions
- Tear the bread slices into small pieces and set aside.
- In a deep pan, heat ghee and add the chopped nuts. Sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the torn bread pieces to the pan and sauté until they turn crisp and golden.
- In a separate saucepan, heat the milk with sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Pour the hot milk mixture over the sautéed bread in the pan. Let it soak for a few minutes.
- Sprinkle rose water over the bread pudding and mix gently.
- Cover the pan and let the bread pudding cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes until the milk is absorbed and the pudding is thickened.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
